"That's how it is. Marcin Maciejowski"
In the beginning, Marcin Maciejowski was known for the activities of the group "Ładnie" (polish for "nicely"), along with Rafal Bujnowski, Marek Firek, Wilhelm Sasnal and Józef Tomczyk "Kurosawa.". After graduating from technical construction high school, he began his studies at the Faculty of Architecture of Cracow University of Technology, and later - at the Faculty of Fine Arts.
He began his independent career around 2000 as an illustrator for Machina magazine. To this day, in his work we can see this 'smartness of an illustrator'.
Maciejowski paints primarily what is called pop culture, transfers to canvas things typical for mass consciousness, and sometimes mocks the social phenomena, and the artistic community, with a large dose of irony.
The exhibition at the National Museum includes retrospective presentation of his work, over one hundred paintings, mostly created during last year, on loan from museums and private collections in the UK, German, Polish, Austria and United States. Several works had been painted specifically for his first individual show in the museum.
